SCH takes to the underwater world in Florida, making history in diving the Spiegle Grove ship.

SCUBA Diving

Steel City Hobbies’ own Michael Rooney and Ron Grove headed to Florida for some underwater research early on June 29, 2005. Below are a few pictures of the US Navy Ship Spiegel Grove, which was sunk near Key Largo to help grow an artificial reef. When the vessel was sunk originally a few years ago, it landed on its starboard (right) side. With the recent Hurricane Dennis two weeks later, the ship was righted by the storm. That is amazing because the ship is over 510′ long and 85′ wide.

The USS Spiegel Grove (LSD-32) is named after the home and estate in Fremont, OH, of Rutherford B. Hayes, the 19th President of the United States. (LSD-32; dp. 6,880; L. 510′; Dr. 19′; S. 21k; Cpl. 756; A. 123′; Cl. Thomaston)

Spiegel Grove (LSD-32) was laid down on 7 September 1954 by the Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp., Pascagoula, MS.; launched on 10 November 1955; sponsored by Mrs. Webb C. Hayes; and commissioned on 8 June 1956, Capt. Saverio S. Fillipone in command.

AutoCross for a cure – A race for charity

Autocross For A Cure

Steel City Hobbies was asked to help out with this charity event as Steel City Hobbies is no stranger to lending a helping hand. The event pulled in about 120 registered racers. SCH asked AB Charles to help produce R/C activities for the show.

Below are a few pictures and videos from the race day. Hopefully next year the event will be hosted somewhere a little more visible such as Heinz Field in Pittsburgh. This year was the 2nd year and it was located at the Washington County airport.. a little off the beaten path!

AB Charles Hobby Shop and SCH put on a show in North Strabain for a family weekend.

North Strabain Family Fest

AB Charles put on a good showing at the North Strabain Family Fest. SCH was invited to help out for the day on Sunday. A great family atmosphere and everyone is looking forward to next year’s event! Thanks to all who attended and helped out! The weather was very sunny, very humid and around 90º.

Extreme RC writes story on the Snowbirds and mentions SCH shooting exclusive video.
