International Indoor Championships – 2007

Steel City Hobbies is in Las Vegas checking out the International Indoor Championships (I.I.C.) for the weekend. SCH’s Michael Rooney is on the scene with cameras in hand. Mike is the principal producer & owner of the R/C car racing documentary called Carpet Racers, which is in several phases of production and post.

International Indoor Championships

This is not just another R/C Car race, this is a high end R/C show that has a lot of extras to go along with the $150 entry such as T-Shirts, buffet meals, and much more in the “goody” bag! — Not to mention the “strip” of Las Vegas where there is never a dull moment.

International Indoor Championships

The IIC is in its third year, and is held at the South Point Resort and Casino – a very nice place! The race this year has strict guidelines to help streamline the racing down to 45 heats – which will allow the program to start and finish within a 12 hour period. RC Scoring Pro is also on hand helping out with the lap timing with new features in the scheduled practice heats.

International Indoor Championships

Walking around the pit area brought back the memories of the R/C “Family” you always see at these large events such as the Snowbird Nationals, Cleveland Indoor Champs, etc. People like Gil Losi, Jr., Billy Easton, Atsushi Hara and Jilles Groskamp are always fun to reminisce with.

SCH’s new carpet track works!

Steel City Hobbies opened the doors for a test-n-tune day for Carpet Racing on Saturday, September 15, 2007.
The major expansion of the track increased in size to 40′ x 92′ with updates to carpet, electronics to video displays. “This R/C facility is really something special for anyone who is into R/C car racing…” says owner Michael Rooney.

We will be trying different track combinations for Oval – so we can maximize track usage as well as maintaining different size run-lines for a wide variety of racing over the course of a season.

Special thanks to SCH’s Frank Dempster, JW and Chuck Chambers for the countless hours of devotion – and to others who worked hard to raise the bar in R/C car racing.

This coming Saturday, 9/29 will be a test-n-tune day for both the track and R/C car racing. There will be non-sanctioned club racing this coming weekend. Look for an On-Road event early in October as we celebrate a grand re-opening of Steel City Hobbies’ newest creation!

Steelers win big over Bills

The Pittsburgh Steelers win their 500th game today sporting “throwback” uniforms which are for the 75th season. Many of the old time Steelers Legends were at the game as well in celebration of the 75th anniversary.
Steel City Hobbies is the official hobby shop of the Pittsburgh Steelers since it’s opening year back in 2003.
