Carpet Track UpDate

Steel City Hobbies is working daily on a soon to be – best racing surface for Carpet Racing.

Track size has been increased, Frank Dempster and Chuck Chambers work diligently every day. Other volunteers such as Rob Walbrown, Nitro Mike, Allen Stephens, Conor, J.W., Tony, John and numerous others are working their butts off to complete one of the greatest things in R/C for the Pgh area!

New Carpet Track

SubFloor Build Spring 2007

Steel City has been busy building a top notch race surface at Steel City Hobbies. This track will be one of the top racing surfaces in North America when it is complete.

Above Left: Three ply joists are built on-site providing a very stable support for the sub-floor. The joists run 40′ across the floor and 2′ cross braces will be installed for additional support before topped with up to an inch of plywood for the decking.

The new track will have amenities such as:

  • Larger racing surface – 92′ x 40′
  • Reinforced sub-floor for smooth surface
  • Advanced state-of-the-art timing system
  • Video displays of racing information
  • DirecTV in Pit area
  • Multiple timing capabilities
  • Dual entry drivers stand (Including a ramp for wheelchair use)
  • Added pit area
  • New club membership opportunities for more track time!

Threads to follow: RC TECH and HobbyTalk Oval and RoadCourse.
Track will reopen sometime in July with a bi-monthly racing schedule.
